(MIAMI, May 8, 2012) – Due to a malfunction of the Tamiami Swing Bridge in Miami, the bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until further notice, to allow for repairs to be made. The closure will take place tonight after rush hour traffic has subsided. The bridge will remain in the open position for marine traffic. The repairs are necessary in order to replace the bridge’s center bearing.
The Tamiami Swing Bridge connects the Delaware Parkway to NW South River Drive, just north of NW 20th Street in Miami.
While the bridge is being repaired, traffic will be re-directed as follows:
For traffic traveling south on NW South River Drive
Detour signs will direct traffic west on NW 28th Street to south on NW 37th Avenue, then east on NW 17th Street to NW 27th Avenue.
For traffic traveling north or south on NW 27th Avenue
Detour signs will direct traffic west on NW 17th Street to north on NW 37th Avenue, then east on NW 28th Street to north on NW South River Drive.
Motorists are kindly asked to be patient until the bridge is returned to service.
