Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department to reconfigure traffic lanes on the Bear Cut Bridge

(MIAMI, February 5, 2013) – Residents of and visitors to Key Biscayne should note that the Miami-Dade County Department of Public Works and Waste Management (PWWM) will begin work on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 to reconfigure traffic lanes on the Bear Cut Bridge.  Currently, only one lane of the bridge is open to all eastbound traffic (towards Key Biscayne), while two lanes are open to westbound traffic (one for light vehicles only, one for all traffic). 

The reconfiguration of traffic lanes will open an additional lane to eastbound traffic.  When completed, there will be two eastbound lanes open to all traffic, and two westbound lanes, one for all traffic and one for automobiles and motorcycles only.  Additionally, in the interest of safety, bicyclists and pedestrians will be confined to the northernmost portion of the westbound side of the bridge. 

This project is being conducted in order to help traffic flow more smoothly until the Bear Cut Bridge can be repaired.  The traffic lane reconfiguration work is scheduled to take place between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. seven days a week, and the project should be completed by March 1, 2013, subject to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. 

Motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and others using the Bear Cut Bridge are asked to exercise caution and pay close attention to road signs and police officers directing traffic.
