Please note: All motorists including truck drivers traveling on the Rickenbacker Causeway must obey the traffic signs and follow the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) on the West Bridge (First Bridge from the Toll Plaza) and on the Bear Cut Bridge (Third Bridge from the Toll Plaza), for more information, please contact the Rickenbacker Causeway Office at 305-854-2468.

Roadway Construction/Closure Activities: 

  • Bear Cut Bridge & West Bridge, Rickenbacker Causeway:
    Project No. 20120152, Design-Build Services for the Rehabilitation of West Bridge and Bear Cut Bridge, Rickenbacker Causeway:  The scope of work for this project includes the design, construction, and independent construction engineering and inspection services required to rehabilitate Bridges No. 874541 (West Bridge) and No. 874544 (Bear Cut Bridge) on the Rickenbacker Causeway and replace the existing 12 inch water main attached to the Bear Cut and West Bridges with a new 16 inch ID HDPE water main pipeline under the bay bottom installed by the Horizontal Directional Drill method.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by April 26, 2014.  Mainline Closure:   One westbound lane will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.. The two eastbound lanes will remain open at all times.  Detour:  Motorists are advised to follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs.
    Project No. 20130012, Pile Jacketing and Pile Repairs Under West Bridge and Bear Cut Bridge, Rickenbacker CausewayWork under this project includes all operations required to perform spall repairs and supply, install and energize a sacrificial anode cathodic protection system, including connection to the steel, fill materials, testing, and ensuring continuity between all embedded steel components on designated prestressed piles, and any other materials or accessories necessary to make the cathodic protection system work as designed, on the Bear Cut, West bridge and the Westbound exit ramp bridge along the Rickenbacker Causeway. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 28, 2013. No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • Miami River Greenways; Project No. 20120029: The Project is composed of four (4) separate County parcels which will provide continuity to the Miami River Greenway Network within the boundaries of the City of Miami along the Miami River in Downtown Miami. This 25-foot wide pedestrian/bicycle shared-use riverwalk, featuring a minimum 16’ wide unobstructed concrete pathway, seawalls, drainage, lighting, landscaping, hardscape elements such as benches and trash receptacles. Construction is anticipated to be completed by November 30, 2013. No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • Pine Tree Drive Bridge over Flamingo Waterway; Project No. 20120126:  The project consists of the repair and maintenance to an existing four-lane divided roadway bridge.  The scope of work includes replacement of  the entire existing center span including asphalt pavement, concrete deck, curb, sidewalk, median and traffic barriers, steel girders, bearings, railings, utility supports and other related construction work. Construction is anticipated to be completed by July 1, 2014.  Mainline Closure:  This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 112 Avenue and SW 160 Street (Intersection); Project No. 20120073:   The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 128th Street from SW 127th Avenue to SW 125th Avenue; Project No. 20120135:   The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. This project consists of the construction of an exfiltration system to fully retain on-site the 5-year storm event, which is the design storm for residential areas. Construction is anticipated to be completed by July 31, 2013.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • NE 2 Avenue from Ives Dairy Road to NE 215 Street; Project No. 20120073: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 30, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • NE 146 Street from NE 12th Avenue to NE 14th Avenue; Project No. 20130002:   The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. This project consists of the construction of an exfiltration system to fully retain on-site the 5-year storm event, which is the design storm for residential areas. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • NW 3rd Street from NW 82nd Avenue to NW 84th Avenue; Project No. 20120078:   The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. This project consists of the construction of an exfiltration system to fully retain on-site the 5-year storm event, which is the design storm for residential areas. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • SW 17th Avenue from Noc-A-Tee Dr to Tigertail Drive; Project No. 20120088:  The scope of work includes the construction of an exfiltration system to fully retain on-site a 5-year storm event, which is the design criteria for residential areas, in order to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 1, 2013.  Mainline Closure:  Motorists are advised to expect delays, seek alternate routes or follow maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs and detour route.
  • SW 29th Street from SW 74th Avenue to SW 76th Avenue, Project No. 20110035: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times. Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 37th Avenue from US-1 to Coral Way; Project No. 20110035: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • Westwind Lakes, Phase I, SW 67th Lane to SW 71st Lane from SW 147th Avenue to SW 151st Court, Project No. 20120094: The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries described above that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the construction of a storm drainage system consisting of exfiltration trenches and solid pipe along with drainage inlets and storm manholes; as well as miscellaneous roadway restoration. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 4, 2013. Mainline Closure: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 73rd Avenue and SW 12th Street; Project No. 20130013: The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries described above that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the construction of a storm drainage system consisting of exfiltration trenches and solid pipe along with drainage inlets and storm manholes; as well as miscellaneous roadway restoration. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 30, 2013. Mainline Closure: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 94th Avenue and SW 34th Street; Project No. 20120013-R: Will improve traffic safety at SW 94th Avenue and SW 34th Street.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Working Hours will be Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • SW 122nd Avenue and SW 104th Street; Project No. 20120013-R: Will improve traffic safety at SW 122nd Avenue and SW 104th Street.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by July 31, 2013.  Working Hours will be Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary. 
  • SW 137th Avenue and Sunset Drive (AKA: SW 72nd Street); Project No. 20120013-R: Will improve traffic safety at SW 137th Avenue and Sunset Drive (SW 72nd Street).  Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Working Hours will be Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • SW 147th Avenue from SW 26th Street to SW 10th Street; Project No. 20110191: This roadway improvement project includes roadway widening, milling and resurfacing, construction of curb and gutter, sidewalk, curb ramps, drainage system, installation of detectable warnings, roadway lighting system, guardrail, fences, and signage along with the construction of a water main from SW 22 Street to SW 18 Street.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by December 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure:  Motorists are advised to expect delays, seek alternate routes or follow maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 170th Terrace to SW 171st Street from SW 100th Avenue to SW 101st Avenue; Project No. 20120073: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 248th Street from US-1 to SW 127th Avenue; Project No. 20110168: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 296th Street from SW 177th Avenue to SW 182nd Avenue; Project No. 20110168: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • SW 296th Street from SW 182nd Avenue to SW 187th Avenue; Project No. 20110169: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • NE Miami Court from NE 139th Street to NE 135th Street; Project No. 20130013: The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries described above that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the construction of a storm drainage system consisting of exfiltration trenches and solid pipe along with drainage inlets and storm manholes; as well as miscellaneous roadway restoration. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 30, 2013. Mainline Closure: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • San Simeon Way from Ives Dairy Road to NE 215th Street; Project No. 20120073: The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the following: adjustment of valve boxes and manholes; milling and resurfacing; and pavement markings. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Mainline Closure: This is a moving operation and temporary lane closures will impact traffic at times.  Detour: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • NW 33rd Court and NW 203rd Street; Project No. 20120013-R: Will improve traffic safety at NW 33rd Court and NW 203rd Street.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  Working Hours will be Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary. 
  • NW 67th Street from NW 333rd Avenue to NW 32nd Avenue; Project No. 20130013: The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries described above that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. The scope of work consists of, but is not limited to, the construction of a storm drainage system consisting of exfiltration trenches and solid pipe along with drainage inlets and storm manholes; as well as miscellaneous roadway restoration. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 4, 2013. Mainline Closure: Motorists are advised to seek alternate route or follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs or detour route.
  • NW 82nd Avenue from NW 3rd Street to NW 7th Street and NW 3rd Street from NW 82n Avenue to NW 84th Avenue; Project No. 20120078: The scope of work for this project is to alleviate flooding problems within the project boundaries that have an ineffective drainage infrastructure. This project consists of the construction of an exfiltration system to fully retain on-site the 5-year storm event, which is the design storm for residential areas. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 31, 2013.  No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
  • NW 87th Avenue from NW 154th Street to NW 186th Street; Project No. 20110194: Roadway widening from two to four lanes, along NW 87 Ave from NW 162 Street to NW 186 Street and construct a new four lane road, from NW 154 Street to NW 162 Street. The improvements include milling and resurfacing, a raised curbed median, sidewalks, curb and gutters, a continuous storm drainage system, signalization, decorative lighting, bicycle lanes, culvert replacement, pavement markings, and signage. This project also includes the construction of a 36-inch ductile iron water main along NW 87 Avenue, from NW 154 Street to NW 170 Street.  This construction, on behalf of the Water and Sewer Department (WASD), is part of the water transmission system required along NW 87 Avenue. Construction is anticipated to be completed by June 30, 2015.
