Please note: All motorists including truck drivers traveling on the Rickenbacker Causeway must obey the traffic signs and follow the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) on the West Bridge (First Bridge from the Toll Plaza) and on the Bear Cut Bridge (Third Bridge from the Toll Plaza), for more information, please contact the Rickenbacker Causeway Office at 305-854-2468.

Roadway Construction/Closure Activities:

Project No. 20120152, Design-Build Services for the Rehabilitation of West Bridge and Bear Cut Bridge, Rickenbacker Causeway:  The scope of work for this project includes the design, construction, and independent construction engineering and inspection services required to rehabilitate Bridges No. 874541 (West Bridge) and No. 874544 (Bear Cut Bridge) on the Rickenbacker Causeway and replace the existing 12 inch water main attached to the Bear Cut and West Bridges with a new 16 inch ID HDPE water main pipeline under the bay bottom installed by the Horizontal Directional Drill method.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by April 26, 2014.  Mainline Closure:   Vehicular traffic will be moved to the south side of the bridge. Two lanes will remain open to traffic during  the day in each direction; one lane will  be closed in each direction from 9 pm to 5 am due to traffic shifting operations. Please be alert to new conditions daily.  Detour:  Motorists are advised to follow posted maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs.

Project No. 20130012, Pile Jacketing and Pile Repairs Under West Bridge and Bear Cut Bridge, Rickenbacker CausewayWork under this project includes all operations required to perform spall repairs and supply, install and energize a sacrificial anode cathodic protection system, including connection to the steel, fill materials, testing, and ensuring continuity between all embedded steel components on designated prestressed piles, and any other materials or accessories necessary to make the cathodic protection system work as designed, on the Bear Cut, West bridge and the Westbound exit ramp bridge along the Rickenbacker Causeway. Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 28, 2013. No mainline road closing foreseen, therefore no alternate route is necessary.
