Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department honored for 19th consecutive time for Excellence in Financial Reporting

(MIAMI, January 17, 2014) – The Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department (PWWM) was recently honored with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).  The Department received the Certificate for its fiscal year 2011-2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the Waste Management Enterprise Fund, led by the Department’s Controller, Maria Sanchez.  This marks the 19th consecutive year PWWM has been recognized for its CAFR by the GFOA.

According to the GFOA website, the Certificate of Achievement is bestowed on agencies to “recognize innovative programs – contributions to the practice of government finance that exemplify outstanding financial management.”

“We’re very proud to be recognized for this achievement once again,” said Alina T. Hudak, Deputy Mayor and Interim Department Director for PWWM. “Being honored with this prestigious award for nearly two decades shows that the Department is dedicated to delivering excellence through responsible financial management and reporting practices,” added Hudak.

PWWM’s CAFR was selected for the GFOA award by a team of experts in the field of public-sector financial reporting.  The GFOA is a professional organization of state, provincial, and local government finance officers in the United States and Canada.  The GFOA has approximately 17,500 members.
