Public Works and Waste Management Department announces new weight restrictions on the Venetian Causeway bridges

(MIAMI, April 12, 2014) – Due to a recent load rating analysis of the Venetian Causeway bridges, the weight limits in effect have been lowered from 15 tons to 11 tons on all bridges except the West Venetian Bascule Bridge. The weight limit on the West Venetian Bascule Bridge has been lowered to 5 tons until intermediate repairs are implemented. These new weight limits are effective immediately.

As a result of the weight restrictions, Miami-Dade Transit bus Route A, which travels on the Venetian Causeway, has been temporarily suspended until further notice. Bus stops for bus Route South Beach Local (123) in Belle Isle will be temporarily relocated, until further notice, to the east entrance of the Venetian Causeway, near Purdy Avenue and Dade Boulevard. The schedule for Route 123 will remain the same.

Customers who wish to travel between Miami Beach and the City of Miami are encouraged to use the following routes that service Miami Beach and downtown Miami:

For additional information on alternate transit routes, contact 3-1-1 or visit the Miami-Dade Transit website at www.miamidade.gov/transit.  Miami-Dade Transit will continue to consider alternative methods of transportation for the affected routes while weight restrictions are in place.

For information on the bridge weight restrictions, contact the Public Works and Waste Management Department at 305-514-6653.
