Rickenbacker, Venetian Causeway tolls converting to SunPass

(MIAMI, September 17, 2014) – Starting Tuesday, September 23, 2014, the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways will collect tolls electronically.  Both causeways will convert to SunPass for toll collection.

This means that cash and County-issued C-Pass transponders will no longer be accepted.  SunPass transponders and TOLL-BY-PLATE are in – along with convenience and a smoother ride with no-need-to-stop.

Motorists driving two-axle vehicles with a SunPass transponder will pay the standard toll rate of $1.75 per trip on the Rickenbacker Causeway and $1.75 each way on the Venetian Causeway.   Drivers crossing the causeways without a SunPass transponder will have their tolls collected through TOLL-BY-PLATE at a cost of $2.25 per trip and a monthly administrative fee of $2.50.

Key Biscayne and Venetian Causeway residents and eligible commuters with annual plans will continue to enjoy their annual plan rates; however, they must associate their SunPass transponders with their causeway toll plans by September 23, 2014, to avoid per-trip toll charges.

“By implementing SunPass at the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeway Plazas, we are modernizing and streamlining toll collection, bringing greater efficiency to the process while alleviating traffic flow,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.  “Residents, commuters and tourists will experience greater convenience as they enjoy traveling on these two beautiful and historic roadways.”

Residents with questions about conversion of the causeways to SunPass can call the Causeways Division at 305-854-2468, email [email protected], or visit http://www.miamidade.gov/publicworks.
