Phase II of the Miami Avenue Bridge project to begin evening of October 31

- Traffic flow to change direction -

(MIAMI, October 31, 2014) – Phase II of the construction project Improvements to the Miami Avenue Bridge over the Miami River is set to begin tonight at 10:00 p.m. Road closures will continue to be in effect throughout the area through the completion of the project, and motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are asked to follow posted detours. As it was during Phase I, work is scheduled to take place from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, although some construction activities may take place nights and weekends from time to time with prior County approval.

The project is taking place on South Miami Avenue over the Miami River, in Miami-Dade County Commission District 5. Contractors will replace the entire steel grating over the bridge and do other related work to improve the bridge.

To date, work has taken place mostly on the northbound side of the bridge, which had been closed to vehicular traffic while the southbound side remained open. During the second phase of the project, work will take place on the southbound side of the bridge.

Please note the following detours:

Northbound Vehicular Detour
Northbound vehicular traffic along South Miami Avenue will be routed through the newly-constructed northbound lane throughout this phase.

Southbound Vehicular Detour
Vehicular traffic on South Miami Avenue will be detoured at SW 2 and SW 3 Street west to SW 2 Ave. From there, it will continue south to SW 7 and SW 8 Street going east onto South Miami Avenue.

Southbound Pedestrian Detour
Pedestrian traffic on South Miami Avenue will be detoured at SW 3 Street and will be using the newly-constructed northbound bridge throughout Phase II.

Northbound Pedestrian Detour
Pedestrian traffic on South Miami Avenue will be detoured at South Miami Avenue by placing Sidewalk Closed Ahead / Cross Here signs to guide pedestrians to the northbound sidewalk of South Miami Avenue.
