Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department announces installation of audible vibratory markings on Bear Cut Bridge of Rickenbacker Causeway

(MIAMI, November 25, 2014) – The Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department (PWWM) will install audible vibratory asphalt markings on the Bear Cut Bridge of the Rickenbacker Causeway on Thursday, December 4, and Friday, December 5, 2014.

Installation work will occur on the eastbound and westbound vehicle travel lanes closest to the dedicated bicycle lanes of the bridge. Work will be phased over the two-day period between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. During the installation of the pavement markings, at least one travel lane will remain open at all times.  While the timing of the work has been scheduled to avoid the rush hour period, motorists may experience traffic delays.

The purpose of audible vibratory pavement markings is to alert motorists that they are drifting from the driving lane.  Vibratory markings do this by causing a tactile vibration and an audible rumble which is transmitted through the vehicle’s wheels into the vehicle interior.  Vibratory stripes provide a safe and efficient way to reduce run-off-the-road collisions, especially when installed next to bicycle and pedestrian paths.
