Construction work, lane closures to take place along Rickenbacker Causeway this week

(MIAMI, December 16, 2014) – The Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department (PWWM) will conduct routine maintenance on a bridge armor joint tonight on the William Powell Bridge.

The work will take place on the two westbound vehicle travel lanes just west of the highest point of the bridge, closest to the dedicated bicycle lane.  Work is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. this evening and will end at 2 a.m.  During this activity, at least one travel lane will remain open at all times.  While the timing of the maintenance work has been scheduled to avoid the rush hour period, motorists may experience traffic delays.

Additionally, PWWM is scheduled to install audible vibratory asphalt markings on the Bear Cut Bridge of the Rickenbacker Causeway on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, and Thursday, December 18, 2014.  This project was originally scheduled to take place earlier this month.

Installation work will take place on the eastbound and westbound vehicle travel lanes closest to the dedicated bicycle lanes of the bridge.  Work will be phased over the two-day period between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  During the installation of the pavement markings, at least one travel lane will remain open at all times.  While the timing of the work has been scheduled to avoid the rush hour period, motorists may experience traffic delays.

The purpose of audible vibratory pavement markings is to alert motorists that they are drifting from the driving lane.  Vibratory markings do this by causing a tactile vibration and an audible rumble which is transmitted through the vehicle’s wheels into the vehicle interior.  Vibratory stripes provide a safe and efficient way to reduce run-off-the-road collisions, especially when installed next to bicycle and pedestrian paths.
