Phase III of the Miami Avenue Bridge project to begin June 17

Traffic flow to change direction

(MIAMI-DADE, FL, June 16, 2015) – Phase III of the construction project Improvements to the Miami Avenue Bridge over the Miami River is set to begin Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 7:00 a.m.  Road closures will continue to be in effect throughout the area through the completion of the project, and motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are asked to follow posted detours.  As it was during Phase II, work is scheduled to take place from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, although some construction activities may take place nights and weekends from time to time with prior County approval.

The project is taking place on South Miami Avenue over the Miami River, in Miami-Dade County Commission District 5.  Contractors will be installing a bicycle friendly grating on the bridge and do other related work in order to finalize the bridge project.

To date, work has taken place on both the northbound and southbound sides of the bridge.  During the third phase of the project, work will take place on the northbound lanes of the bridge.

Please note the following detours:

Northbound Vehicular Detour
Northbound vehicular traffic on South Miami Avenue will be detoured at SE 8th Street going east and into Brickell Avenue, proceeding north and onto Biscayne Boulevard Way. From there, it continues on to Biscayne Boulevard heading north, turning left into SE 2nd Street heading west and then turning right into northbound South Miami Avenue.

Alternatively, northbound traffic is detoured at SE/SW 7th Street going west to SW 2nd Avenue and then proceeding north along SW 2nd Ave, turning right at SW 1st Street to head east, then left at S Miami Avenue to continue north.

Southbound Vehicular Detour
Vehicular traffic on South Miami Avenue will be routed along southbound Miami Avenue through the newly constructed lanes throughout this phase.

Pedestrian Detour
All pedestrian traffic on South Miami Avenue will be using the existing sidewalk on the west side of the bridge throughout Phase III.
