The Causeways Division of the County's Public Works Department operates the toll plazas on both the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways. Both plazas operate under pay-as-you-go and electronic pre-paid toll systems.
Rickenbacker Causeway
The Rickenbacker Causeway toll plaza processes traffic through eight lanes for entry to the islands of Key Biscayne and Virginia Key, as well as the beaches along the causeway.

Wide Load
Lanes 2 and 7 of the Rickenbacker toll plaza are designated wide load lanes. The maximum span to accommodate a wide load vehicle is 11 feet in width and a clearance of 15 feet in height. In the event that the size of the wide load vehicle exceeds the allowable measurements, please follow the instructions below:
- Call the Rickenbacker Toll Plaza (305-854-2468) with the time and the date you will be going through the plaza.
- Contact Miami Dade Police Department with a minimum notice of 24 hours.
- Stop at the Rickenbacker Toll Office to pay the appropriate toll.
Weight Limit
To obtain the weight limit of the Rickenbacker Causeway bridges, please contact the County’s Bridge Engineer at 305-592-3116. Please have the following information ready when calling:
- Total weight of truck + load
- Number of axles

Distance between the axles
- Load on each axle
Venetian Causeway
The Venetian Causeway toll plaza has six lanes and processes two-way traffic, and connects mainland Miami with the Venetian Islands and Miami Beach.

Weight Limits
Weight limits are currently in effect for the Venetian Causeway. No access is allowed to trucks or vehicles over 15 tons (30,000 lbs.) GVW. Violation of these weight restrictions may result in a traffic citation per Florida Statute 316.555.
