Jennifer Basile (Alumni Artist in Residence, 2009-2010)
Basile, an investigator of natural landscape, presents Structures, two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that play off of the materials in the Historic Richmond Cottage and surrounding ecosystems of the Deering Estate. From tactile benches to larger scale sepia prints, the artist strives to reach a variety of audiences by sharing an immersion in the rich Florida landscape.

Lucas Blanco (Alumni Artist in Residence, 2010-2011)
In Lucas Blanco’s exhibition titled Recent Landscapes, the artist shows paintings produced during a mini-summer studio residency at the Estate. Blanco states that “The making of these works grew out of a desire to create a pictorial unity. Just as Benoit Mandelbrot saw order in the natural world with his 'fractal geometry', so too was I seeing an order within the apparent, sometimes chaotic looking natural world… I strove to compress these vistas into a sort of visual net for the viewer to enjoy.”
