Florida Head Start back to school celebration honors dedicated dads

MIAMI (August 07, 2015)

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is kicking off the new school year by bringing together over 200 families enrolled in the County’s Head Start/Early Head Start program for “Back to School with Dad.”  The fun-filled event will honor Head Start dads who are actively involved in their children’s education.

CAHSD, in collaboration with the Office of Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, District 1, will provide families from underserved communities with much needed items to get ready for school, including book bags, school supplies and uniforms.  “Making sure every child is ready for school and that their parents are engaged is essential for school success,” said CAHSD Director Lucia Davis-Raiford.  “We are so excited to help get our families ready for the new year and celebrate these dedicated fathers.”

This event will also feature interactive exhibits by other County departments, including Fire Rescue, Libraries, Police, Animal Services and Elections, along with field games, arts and crafts and raffles.  For more information, follow CAHSD on Twitter and Facebook.
