"Diveheart Scuba Experience" returns to A.D. Barnes Pool

MIAMI (August 19, 2015)

Veterans, adults and youth ages 10+ with disabilities will have an opportunity to escape gravity for a brief time and scuba dive with a certified scuba diving volunteer, as part of the free “Diveheart Scuba Experience” being held on two Saturdays, Sept. 19 and Oct. 17, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at A.D. Barnes Pool, 3401 SW 72nd Ave., Miami. The activity is being presented by the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department’s Disability Services Division in partnership with the Diveheart Foundation and its underwriter Ortho Pro Associates.

Advance registration and medical clearance are required to participate. For more information, contact Terri Bukacheski at 305-598-9688 or info@orthoproassociates.com.

The Diveheart Scuba Experience aims to use scuba as a tool to help build confidence and independence in people with disabilities in the weightless underwater environment, giving buoyancy and balance to those who may have mobility challenges on land. It is a program of the Diveheart Foundation, founded in 2001 by Chicago media executive Jim Elliott. In recent years, the group has expanded its operation to South Florida, where it is led by Wilhelmina Stanton.
