Calling All Men: Stand Up Against Violence
Join Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) on Thursday, November 19, 2015 for an all-day conference designed to encourage right-thinking, well-meaning men to define their roles in the elimination of violence in our community.
The Calling All Men Conference engages over 300 men each year to learn, discuss and plan how they can actively play a positive role in the elimination of violence. The conference calls all good-intentioned men from across Miami-Dade County to become leaders in teaching other men and boys how to stop acts of violence in their communities, especially violence against women and girls.
Workshops, led by national experts in the fields of prevention and rehabilitation, will explore the root causes of violent behavior and the responsibility that men have in stopping it. “Violence is not an issue that impacts a certain type of community or a certain type of person,” says CAHSD Director Lucia Davis-Raiford. “It is a sad part of our social fabric, and this conference helps men see all the factors that contribute to the perpetuation of violence, from gender inequality to the way we define masculinity and the language we use. Men will leave this conference with the tools to become our strongest community advocates for putting an end to violence.”
The conference will be held at Albizu University, located at 2173 NW 99th Ave., Doral, Florida, 33172. Interested participants can register online via the CAHSD website at www.miamidade.gov/socialservices. For more information about the conference, contact Ivon Mesa at 305-285-5906.
