Pet lovers lined-up early to give 363 cats and dogs forever homes during the 2015 ASPCA® Mega Match-A-Thon

MIAMI (October 13, 2015)

A total of 363 cats and dogs found forever homes during this year’s ASPCA® Mega Match-a-thon event, presented by Subaru, that took place in Tropical Park as a 24-hour family festival “marathon” of pet adoptions beginning on October 9, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. and running throughout the next day. Over 2,000 people attended the event which is hosted every year by Miami-Dade Animal Services in collaboration with the Humane Society of Greater Miami and the Cat Network.

Scheduled to kick-off at one minute before midnight, pet lovers began lining up for the event as early as 5:30 p.m.! Just before midnight, there were close to 300 people—including families—in line for the opportunity to meet, fall in love with and adopt one or more of dozens of adorable cats, kittens, dogs and puppies.

Of the 363 pets adopted during the 24-hours of the event, 245 were from Miami-Dade Animal Services, 98 more than the previous year.

“Our goal for this year’s event was 300 and thanks to the support of our pet loving community we were able to surpass this goal and save more lives,” said Alex Muñoz, Director of Animal Services. “We invite everyone who was not able to attend the event to visit the shelter and adopt one of the more than 500 dogs and cats we take in every week.”
