The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department will join Miami-Dade County District 13 Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. to dedicate the new starting blocks and extensive ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance upgrades at Norman and Jean Reach Pool, 7901 NW 176th St., Miami. They will be joined by youth swim teams from the surrounding schools and children enrolled in the Parks Department’s Learn-to-Swim program. The dedication will conclude will several swimmers performing a ceremonial dive from the starting blocks.
The new development includes two new starting blocks for two of the pool lanes and extensive ADA compliance renovations and fresh paint for the aquatics building. The improvements to update this Pool facility to 100% ADA compliance cost approximately $148,000 and were funded by Community Outlay Reserve Funds (CORF) in partnership with Miami-Dade Commission District 13 by way of a $10,000 contribution.
“I am happy to see the new starting blocks and ADA improvements made at Norman and Jean Reach Pool.” said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “Amenities like these enhance the experience for both residents and visitors. Thank you to everyone who has helped in upgrading the facility.”
“I am glad our office was able to fund the diving blocks that the community had requested and surely needed,” said Commissioner Bovo.
“We are thrilled to see these pool facility upgrades. The pool starting blocks are a plus for the competitive youth swim clubs and teams that practice at Norman and Jean Reach pool. They also serve to encourage children in our recreational swim programs to experience greater launches from the platform and pursue a higher level of competition,” said Miami-Dade Parks Aquatics Safety Coordinator Jim O’Connor.
