Sunday morning & moonlight canoe tours at the Deering Estate
Take a Sunday Morning or Moonlight Canoe Tour across Biscayne Bay! These tours will depart from the boat basin at the Deering Estate and stop at Chicken Key, a seven-acre mangrove island and bird rookery approximately one mile off-shore. Chicken Key contains sand dunes and mangrove forests and is surrounded by sand bars, tidal flats, seagrass beds and rocky debris. A Deering Education and Interpretive Staff Member will accompany these tours, sharing ecological facts about the bay. Morning canoers can observe marine wildlife such as manatees, sea turtles and numerous bird species. Moonlight canoers will enjoy a campfire and s’mores on Chicken Key.
Please wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring water. Hats and sunscreen are recommended for sunrise trips. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
