Precautionary Advisory to avoid all contact with water in effect in Opa-Locka canal

MIAMI (December 11, 2015)

A precautionary advisory to all avoid contact with water has been issued for the canal adjacent to Northwest 127th Street due to a pump station overflow located at 12700 NW 30 Ave in Opa-Locka. Boundaries extend to NW 119th Street between Northwest 32 and 27 avenues. See map of the area.

The sewer spill has been contained. Signs have been posted around the affected areas. The Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources staff is testing the affected waters and the advisory remains in effect until test results are clear.

The sewer overflow was due to a pump station failure that was impacted by the increased water table levels caused by the unseasonably high rain events that have occurred this week.
