Specially-priced island boat tours launching from Biscayne National Park via Miami-Dade Parks' "Pelican Skipper"
Beginning this Friday, the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department’s “Pelican Skipper” is launching specially-priced boat tours to Biscayne National Park’s most popular island destination “Boca Chita Key”, on select weekends (Friday-Sunday) through May 1, 2016. Miami-Dade Parks presents the tours in partnership with the City of Homestead, the National Parks Conservation Association, the Florida National Parks and Monuments Association and the National Park Service.
The family-friendly excursion departs from the park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center, located at Convoy Point, 9700 SW 328th Street, Homestead, FL 33033. Departure times for the ADA accessible Pelican Skipper are 10:30 a.m. and/or 1:45 p.m. Guest will enjoy a guided, two and a half hour adventure aboard the comfortable riding 45-foot power catamaran, that includes beautiful scenery, interesting facts about the island’s history, ecosystems and wildlife; and time to explore the iconic lighthouse and beach.
The cost for a boat trip ticket is $29 (adult)/$19 (child-age 5-12), plus tax. Children age 4 and under are admitted free, when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Groups are welcome. Advance reservations are advised for this tour. Reservations can be made by calling the Florida National Parks and Monuments Association at 786-335-3644. The boat tour calendar and schedule are available on the Biscayne National Park web page.
Each boat trip ticket allows “same-day” free admission to Homestead Bayfront Park. Free trolley service to the park is provided by the City of Homestead from Losner Park in downtown Homestead. Trolley arrival and departure times are coordinated with the island boat tour schedule.
