Miami-Dade County, UF/IFAS Extension to Host Three Commercial Urban Horticulture Programs in February

MIAMI (February 04, 2016)

The Miami-Dade Extension Office will offer three important programs in February designed for the Commercial Urban Horticulture Industry. The programs include: “Landscape Disease Updates”, “Green Industry Best Management Practices” (in Spanish) and “Pruning Trees to Improve Quality”.

Landscape Disease Updates 

Date/Time: Thursday, February 11, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Location: UF/IFAS TREC, 18905 SW 280th St., Homestead (note this is not the Extension office location)

Cost: $10 per person.

Note: Space is Limited to 50 seats!  University of Florida faculty will show and describe new and detrimental diseases found in the South Florida landscape, as well as, provide management techniques to combat them.

Green Industry Best Management Practices (in Spanish) 

Date/Time: Wednesday, February 24, from 8:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m.

Location: Miami-Dade Extension, 18710 SW 288th St., Homestead

Cost: $20 per person.

Note: This is a recommended class for anyone who applies fertilizers to lawns commercially. Attendees will be able to obtain a fertilizer license from FDACS, as well as earn CEUs.

Pruning Trees to Improve Quality!

Date/Time: Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Location: Miami-Dade Extension, 18710 SW 288th St., Homestead

Cost: $10 per person.

Note: This class is in collaboration with the FNGLA and will teach how to properly prune trees in the landscape. The workshop will include a field exercise using small and medium size landscape trees.
