Tuesday is the registration deadline for the 03/15/2016 Presidential Preference Primary Election

Register to vote or update party affiliation if needed

MIAMI (February 13, 2016)

Did you know that Florida is a Closed Primary State? February 16th is the deadline to register to vote, or update your party affiliation if needed, for the March 15th Presidential Preference Primary Election.

“Voting is the most impactful way to have a say in important issues that affect you and your community.  Since the Primary Election is only open to registered Republicans and Democrats, I encourage all voters to confirm their eligibility before heading to the polls,” stated Christina White, Supervisor of Elections Designee.

To register to vote, residents must:

  • be 18 years or older (pre-registration begins at 16);
  • be a U.S. citizen;
  • be a permanent resident of Miami-Dade County. There is no specific time requirement to live in Miami-Dade County to be considered a permanent resident.

In addition, anyone interested in changing their party affiliation for this election must do so by the February 16th deadline.

 With the deadline just three days away, the most convenient option for those interested in registering to vote or updating their party affiliation is to visit the Elections Department website and download a Voter Registration Application.  The completed form may be mailed in to the Elections Department (Supervisor of Elections, P.O. Box 521550, Miami, Florida 33152) and MUST be postmarked by February 16th to be accepted as valid for this election.

Another option is to hand deliver the application.  Our offices will be closed over the weekend and on Monday, in observance of the President’s Day Holiday.  To afford every possible opportunity to the residents of Miami-Dade County, our offices will be open as follows on February 16th:

  • The Elections Main Office in Doral (2700 NW 87th Avenue, Miami, FL 33172) will remain open 8:00 am – 12:00 am (midnight)
  • The Elections Branch Office in Downtown Miami (Stephen P. Clark Center Lobby, 111 NW 1 Street, Miami, FL 33128) will be open 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
