Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to lead Bike305 "Bike-to-Work Day" ride
Residents are encouraged to try cycling and leave their cars behind
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces is once again hosting the Bike305 Bike-to-Work Day event. This annual event highlights a calendar of cycling activities held throughout March, which is “Bike305 Month” in Miami-Dade County.
On Friday, March 4, 2016 at 8 a.m., Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys and municipal Mayors, will kick-off the “2016 Bike-to-Work Day” ride at the University of Miami Metrorail Station, 5400 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables, demonstrating how easy it is to cycle to work, especially when combined with a trip on public transportation. Participants and cyclists are expected to arrive at 7:30 a.m. Residents are asked to leave their cars behind and join the ride, if only for this one day, to reduce traffic congestion and experience the stress-relieving health benefits of pedaling a bike.
Bike305 is a collaboration of Miami-Dade County municipalities, Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works Departments and South Florida cycling groups – all who encourage healthy lifestyles and transportation alternatives through bike-friendly events that connect bikeways, trails and greenways, as well as programs that teach safe-cycling skills to children and adults.
Twenty-one municipalities are part of the Bike305 effort, welcoming the city of North Miami Beach as its most recent partner.
Sponsors of the event include AvMed, Mack Cycle & Fitness and State Farm Agent Manny Miranda.
