West Venetian Bascule Bridge Reopens

MIAMI (February 26, 2016)

The West Venetian Bascule bridge, part of the vital thoroughfare - the Venetian Causeway - will reopen on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, after nearly nine months of rehabilitation work.

The project cost nearly $12 million and consisted of the replacement of bridge’s westernmost portion. Approximately 730 feet of superstructure and substructure were removed and replaced with a new complete bridge superstructure and substructure, along with a new approach roadway and lighting.

The removed parts of the old bridge were submerged to create an artificial reef.

To celebrate the completion of the rehabilitation project, the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Feb. 29.

For more information about public works projects, or how to plan your trip on transit, visit DTPW’s website. Information is also available via social media on Facebook and Twitter.
