"Electric Persephone in the Scorpion's Den" by Kara Lee Corthron
In this riff on the Persephone myth, B.J. becomes the prisoner and companion to a socially awkward but surprisingly powerful band roadie. In 1970 rock-n-roll America, B.J.’s hope for rescue lies in her record-producing mama, her natural gifts on a Stratocaster, and the father she’s never met. The father she dreams is none other than Jimi Hendrix. Directed by Carey Brianna Hart with Stephon Duncan as TRIA, Hailey Zetino as BJ, Alex Weiss as GUITAR, Mitch Lemos as MAN.
The event is part of a Playwright Project Residency as well as a part of annual Theatre Lab Programming at the Deering Estate located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue. The Visitor Center Theatre and parking lot are located at the end of SW 168th, east of Old Cutler Road in the Palmetto Bay Neighborhood. The event is free and open to the public.
