Free, family-friendly events at the Deering Estate's 2016 Festival of the Arts
The Deering Estate invites the community to its annual Festival of the Arts on Saturday, April 16th from 3:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Events include a special performance by National Water Dance, an indoor and outdoor exhibit, a Curator's and Artists' Tour, a Literary Lounge, and interactive activities for all ages. The event is free & open to the public.
The culture-packed evening features:
4:00 p.m.: National Water Dance directed by Dale Andree;
5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.: Literary Lounge featuring readings in the Stone House Library;
5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.: Curator's Tour with Kim Yantis, Deering Estate's Cultural Arts Curator;
7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.: Art Exhibition Tour with participating artists of the "Intersections" contemporary art exhibition.
Additional family-friendly fun includes the Artful Scavenger Hunt and Bring Your Own Perspective (BYOP) Photography Competition. Participants can post their best photos from this year's "Intersections" Exhibition to Instagram with #BYOPDeering, or email entries to [email protected]. The photography contest will run from April 16-24. Winners will be announced the week of April 25. Participation will feature the opportunity to win prizes such as a digital camera and a family membership to the Deering Estate.
Various food, drink and bar options will be available at the Culinary Café in the courtyard.
About the Deering Estate
The 450+ acre Deering Estate is an environmental, archaeological and historical preserve. From canoe tours to bird walks and guided nature hikes, the Deering Estate has diverse activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Estate is part of the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, which manages the Estate on behalf of the State of Florida.
