Volunteers to beautify West Perrine with trees

TD Green Streets Grant advances Million Trees Miami initiative

MIAMI (May 04, 2016)

Join volunteers from the Office of Miami-Dade Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, TD Bank, Neat Streets Miami, Citizens for a Better South Florida, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Pine Lake Elementary, surrounding communities and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, from 8:30-11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016, as they transform a simple open space with newly planted trees at the south side of 168th Street from the Busway Station to 100th Avenue, Miami.

The event aims to engage and educate residents to expand Miami-Dade’s tree canopy and beautify a major community corridor.

Funding for the tree planting is provided through TD Green Streets, a grant program from TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, and the Arbor Day Foundation supporting innovation in urban forestry.  FPL helped facilitate the selection of tree species to ensure trees are planted in the appropriate location and at a safe distance from power lines. Neat Streets Miami worked in partnership with Citizens for a Better South Florida to conduct education and outreach to surrounding communities about the importance of planting trees.  These efforts will advance the Million Trees Miami goal of reaching 30 percent tree canopy by 2020.
