Miami-Dade Park's Bike305 initiative receives National Association of County's (NACo) 'Best of Category'

MIAMI (June 24, 2016)

The Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department’s Bike305 initiative has been recognized by the National Association of County’s (NACo) in the ‘Best of Parks and Recreation Category’ for its unique innovations and exceptional results.

Since 2013, Bike305 has created opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy a healthy lifestyle while fostering a bike-friendly community that promotes cycling as an alternative mode of transportation by combining public-transportation trips as a way to reach their destinations, safely and stress-free. Bike305’s efforts help to address the problem of obesity by providing year-round opportunities and bike rides, and  encourages residents to explore their neighborhoods and connect with one another through bicycling.

“As the only program of its kind in the nation, Bike305 is a grassroots effort that brings together municipalities, community-based organizations and businesses to encourage bicycling as a form of exercise that all ages and levels can do together,” Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys shared. “Along with organizing community rides, Bike305 provides valuable bike safety information and resources all while doing its part to address the problems of traffic congestion.”

Miami-Dade Parks is a world-class parks system supported by the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade and focused on Placemaking, Health and Fitness, and Conservation and Stewardship
