Miami-Dade County encourages a new generation to take transit

MIAMI (July 15, 2016)

Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is working with The New Tropic in order to change the conversation around transit.

How do you make riding public transportation fun again? It's all about how you engage.

"We hope to encourage a new generation of riders to explore other mobility options,” explains DTPW Director, Alice N. Bravo, P.E. “We’re expanding the conversation to include more active voices and incorporate unique perspectives on the way we move around our County.”

Together, Miami-Dade County and The New Tropic will explore the system and learn how Miamians move.

This partnership will take Metrobus, Metrorail, and Metromover riders -- both new and loyal -- on a one-of-a-kind trip. From interviews with transit personnel to pop-up concerts with local musicians to a kindness campaign, the way Miami experiences public transportation is about to change.

Throughout the next few months -- along with the collaboration of the Prism Music Group and the support of DTPW -- The New Tropic will organize activations around the County motivated by the shared goal of promoting mobility.

“Transportation has been a core topic for us since day one,” says Chris Sopher, CEO and co-founder of WhereBy.Us. “Before we started publishing The New Tropic, we hosted brainstorming events and did months of research on the local experience in the city, and we found that mobility was the number one issue.

“We couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to create engagement with locals and build a better future for transportation.”

Miami’s never moved like this -- and you’re about to see why.
