8th Annual Regional Climate Leadership Summit coming to Palm Beach County, October 5 – 6, 2016

MIAMI (July 19, 2016)

Miami-Dade County and its partners in the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact announce the 8th Annual Regional Climate Leadership Summit, October 5 - 6, 2016 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Climate Leadership Summit is a major regional event providing a forum for climate-related dialog and knowledge sharing.

The theme for this year is Resilient Communities – Prosperous Region. The Summit will focus on various sectors – business, agriculture, government and residents – in an effort to show what is being done and what can be done to ensure that adaptation strategies respect both economic vitality and environmental sustainability.

“Our partnership and close collaboration with our Compact partners is key to our efforts to develop a comprehensive and cohesive resilience plan for our government,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “This year’s Summit is a great opportunity to highlight the cutting-edge initiatives underway to build resilience in Miami-Dade County and the Southeast Florida region overall.”

The Climate Leadership Summit is organized by the Climate Change Compact, a partnership among Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties. The Compact’s goal is to identify the means to mitigate the causes and adapt to the consequences of climate change. The Compact outlines an on-going collaborative effort to foster sustainability and climate resilience at a regional scale. The Summit helps put these collaborative efforts into action. More than 400 guests attended last year’s Summit in Monroe County, including national and international experts.

Details on the summit, the program and registration are available online. For more information about the Compact, visit their website.
