"All About the Numbers" Historic Preservation and Special Anniversaries Focus of Program and Reception
Two like-minded groups, the 100 Ladies of Deering and the Historical Preservation Association of Coral Gables, have joined forces to highlight the importance of historic preservation and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act and the 30th anniversary of the Deering Estate being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, it’s the 100th anniversary of Charles Deering’s purchase and restoration of the Richmond Hotel, which he turned into his winter residence.
Arva Moore Parks, author and local historian, will address how the National Historic Preservation Act has benefited Miami.
Dr. Janet Snyder Matthews, former Keeper of the National Register, now Director of Academics and Research, University of Florida’s Historic St. Augustine, Inc., will discuss why the Deering Estate should be designated a National Historic Landmark.
