Walk among beautiful butterflies at the Deering Estate

MIAMI (August 15, 2016)

Explore various habitats at the Deering Estate in search of Dina Yellow, Dingy Purplewing and Atala butterflies, among others, at the Summer Butterfly Walk on Saturday, August 27, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Butterfly Walks are free with Estate admission: $12 for adults & $7 for children (ages 4-14).

Monarch butterflies need our help! Join the National Wildlife Federation and help plant monarch butterfly food so we can continue to enjoy these iconic butterflies. Guests who pledge to be a Butterfly Hero at the Butterfly Walk on August 27th will receive a free Butterfly Garden Starter Kit which will help create essential habitat for monarch butterflies. The kit includes a seed packet with native milkweed or a flowering nectar plant and a Ranger Rick Wildlife Notebook.

Mayors and other local government chief executives are taking action to help save the monarch butterfly, an iconic species whose populations have declined by 90% in the last 20 years. Through the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors' Monarch Pledge, cities and municipalities are committing to create habitat and educate citizens about how they can make a difference at home. In early May, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez took the National Wildlife Federation's Mayors' Monarch Pledge signifying the commitment of Miami-Dade County and Miami-Dade Parks to take specific actions to help the monarch and other pollinators.
