Volunteers to commemorate victims of 9/11 through service at Miami-Dade Parks' National Day of Service and Remembrance volunteer project at Tropical Park
Miami-Dade Parks, the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade, Barry University and the Miami Dolphins Special Teams powered by AARP Foundation Volunteer Program are joining forces to spearhead a local volunteer project for September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance on Saturday, September 10, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., at Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40 Street in Miami.
Volunteers from participating organizations and schools will commemorate the victims and heroes of 9/11 through volunteer service. Beautification projects scheduled for this day include landscaping around the newly renovated stadium, landscaping the main entrance area and mulching trees among other enhancements throughout Tropical Park.
Volunteers will gather at the football stadium for check-in at 8:00 a.m. The day will begin with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. with remarks by dignitaries including Miami-Dade County Commissioner Javier Souto, District 10 and Miami-Dade Parks’ Assistant Director of Operations Jorge Mora, recognizing the importance of remembering the fallen through community service. Light breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be available for the volunteers, courtesy of Barry University and the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade.
