Lower fares are coming to Metrobus express routes within the County

MIAMI (September 29, 2016)

Last week, on September 22, 2016, the Board of County Commissioners approved the budget presented by Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez that included reducing the fare for express Metrobus routes that operate within County lines from $2.65 to $2.25.

“Making transportation more accessible and affordable for our residents and visitors is one of my top priorities,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “By lowering fares, we hope to encourage greater use of public transportation in our community.”

Intra-County routes 150, 338, 272, 288, 204, 34, and 95 Express Golden Glades will have a lower cost per trip. The 301 Dade-Monroe Express, 302 Card Sound Express, and four 95 Dade-Broward Express routes will remain at the current trip fare.

The resolution that led to the fare reduction was sponsored by District 8 County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava.

“Express bus service like the 95 Express routes and Busway Flyer are important connections for thousands of people already, and will be a critical link in the SMART plan,” explained Commissioner Levine Cava. “Making fares equitable will broaden their appeal and attract new riders.”

The lower fare begins collection on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

“Our express Metrobus route fares will now match our Metrorail rates,” said Alice N. Bravo, P.E., Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works. “Passengers will be saving nearly $1 every express bus round trip that we hope will turn into more rides with us.”
