Popular Metrobus route changed to enhance its service

MIAMI (November 17, 2016)

In order to improve service and boost the ridership experience, the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is dividing the popular Metrobus Route 34 into two improved lines: Route 34A Express and 34B Express. Previously, Route 34 was a 13-stop route that took riders an average of 63 minutes to complete.

Whereas Route 34 in its entirety once ran from the Dadeland South Metrorail station to SW 344 Street in Florida City, the divided lines have been adjusted to facilitate speedier travel. The routes will begin service on Monday, November 21, 2016.

Route 34A Express will travel directly from the Dadeland South Station until its first stop at SW 112 Avenue (near Target), and from there it will begin its limited-stop service along the South Dade TransitWay to SW 344 Street in Florida City. This service will operate at a frequency of every 10 minutes.

Route 34B Express will provide service between the South Dade Government Center and the Dadeland South Station, traveling directly from SW 152 Street to the Dadeland South Station. Service on Route 34B Express will be every 15 minutes.

The split will help alleviate overcrowding on the buses serving the route, and provide a faster trip for riders who come from Homestead and Florida City.

Passengers will be able to identify the district routes as indicated on the destination sign of each approaching vehicle.

“Our number one priority is to transport our passengers safely and effectively,” said DTPW Director Alice N. Bravo, P.E. “By separating Route 34 into two – A and B routes – we are able to provide more efficient service to our riders and get them to where they need to go faster. We have also increased the number of trips and buses we are providing on this heavily used route.”
