Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department receives award for financial reporting excellence
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). WASD has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement Award for 33 consecutive years (since 1982).
“Our consistent recognition from the GFOA is a testament to our department’s commitment to not only providing reliable water and sewer services to our 2.3 million customers on a daily basis, but to our duty to also be responsible financial stewards of our rate payers’ monies,” said WASD Director Lester Sola.
“We remain committed to transparency and meeting the high standards set by the GFOA. I would like to commend WASD’s Controller Division and Public Affairs Section’s staffs for their tireless efforts in preparing this report each year.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
The CAFR was rigorously judged by an impartial panel whose criteria included demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate financial stories. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association comprising approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services visit WASD’s website.
