East Bascule Bridge on Venetian Causeway will temporarily close again to complete rehabilitation work
The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) will temporarily close again the East Bascule Bridge on the Venetian Causeway to complete rehabilitation work on the bascule bridge and an adjacent fixed bridge.
Starting at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, the East Bascule Bridge will be closed to vehicular, cycling and pedestrian traffic. Work on the bridge is expected to be completed by approximately Dec. 29, 2016, or sooner, if there are no unforeseen circumstances.
Starting on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, Route A buses will once again be detoured until the bascule bridge is reopened in late December 2016.
During the time that rehabilitation work is being done on the East Bascule Bridge, DTPW also will be improving the roadway surface and driving conditions along Venetian Way from the eastern approach of the West Venetian Bridge to N. Venetian Drive.
The scope of this work includes:
• milling and resurfacing
• adjustment of valve boxes and manholes
• ADA ramps and connectors and
• pavement markings and signage
The work has been scheduled to take place during the closure period of the East Bascule Bridge to minimize disruptions to traffic. Although lane closures may be necessary, traffic in both directions will be maintained at all times. Construction is anticipated to be completed prior to the Christmas holidays.
Residents who need additional information regarding this temporary closure can contact Karla Damian, DTPW Public Information Officer, at [email protected].
