The Deering Estate offers films and lectures covering a variety of topics that are free and open to the public.

"Speaking Sustainably" Film & Lecture Series
The "Speaking Sustainably" Film & Lecture series offers an opportunity to engage the community with critical environmental issues of the twenty-first century and to inspire action.

Lecture on Wednesday, January 18, reception at 7:00 pm & lecture at 7:30 pm
"Algae as Beacons of Environmental Change in South Florida"
presented by FIU School of Environment, Arts and Society (SEAS)
Free & open to the public; Visitor Center Theatre.

Film on Wednesday, January 25, reception at 7:00 pm & film at 7:30 pm
"Manatees: Conserving a Marine Mammal"
presented by WPBT2 and Changing Seas
Free & open to the public; Visitor Center Theatre.

ArtCare Conservation Lecture Series
The ArtCare Conservation Lecture Series, a new series held in partnership with the Deering Estate, is presented by ArtCare, A Rustin Levenson Company that specializes in fine art conservation. ArtCare director and select professionals from the team will present specialized topics for art lovers, collectors, and arts professionals alike.

Lecture on Tuesday, January 17, 7:00 pm
"Structural Treatment of Paintings with Oliver Watkiss"
Free & open to the public with a suggested donation to Deering’s Coins for Conservation Program; Stone House Ballroom.

Oliver Watkiss, Senior Conservator and ArtCare’s expert on the structural treatment of paintings, will talk about his work repairing artworks from damaged paint surfaces, and torn canvasses to underlying support systems. Watkiss will share examples of treatments that he has carried out, both in U.S. and in England.

Archaeological Society of Southern Florida Lecture Series
In partnership with the Archaeological Society of Southern Florida, the Deering Estate presents a monthly lecture highlighting unique and interesting connections to our past. Lectures are held at the Visitor Center Theatre.

Lecture on Thursday, January 12, 7:00 pm
"Archaeology of the Cold War in South Florida"
Presenter: Sara Ayers-Rigsby, MA, RPA, Director of the Florida Public Archaeology Network’s Southeast/Southwest Regions
