Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to lead fifth annual Bike305 "Bike-to-Work Day"
Residents are encouraged to leave their cars behind and try cycling!
It’s a short ride, but one of the most important that you can participate in! The Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces department is once again hosting the Bike305 Bike-to-Work Day event. This annual event, held during the County’s “Bike305 Month,” promotes riding a bicycle as the clean, healthy, fun option for commuting to work and highlights a month-long calendar of cycling activities.
On Friday, March 3rd, at 8 a.m., Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade Parks Director George Navarrete and municipal Mayors, will kick-off the “2017 Bike-to-Work Day” at Coconut Grove Metrorail Station, US1 & SW 27 Ave., Miami - demonstrating how easy it is to cycle to work, especially when combined with a trip on public transportation. Residents are asked to leave their cars behind - grab their bicycle and helmet and join the ride, if only for this one day, to help reduce traffic congestion and experience the stress-relieving health benefits of pedaling a bike.
As part of the festivities, Mayor Gimenez will recognize the “Bike305 Family of the Year!” -- The Nunez family [Elliot, Patricia and son Elliot Rafael.] This cycling family is leading the Bike305 movement by their example; introducing families to ways to incorporate cycling into their lives and connecting them to rides and other biking activities that are geared for enjoying more ‘family-time’ together.
Participants and cyclists are expected to arrive at 7:15 a.m. - Refreshments, giveaways and free air/bike checks will take place. Includes free Bike305 T-Shirts* and free one-way Metrorail passes* to commuters arriving be on bicycle (*limited quantities and must provide a valid email address.)
Bike305 is a collaboration of Miami-Dade County municipalities, Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works Departments and South Florida cycling groups – all who encourage healthy lifestyles and transportation alternatives through bike-friendly events that connect bikeways, trails and greenways, as well as programs that teach safe-cycling skills to children and adults.
Twenty-two municipalities are part of the Bike305 effort, welcoming the city of North Miami Beach and the Town of Medley as its most recent partners.
Sponsors of the event include Mack Cycle & Fitness, AvMed, Everglades Bicycle Club (EBC), Shell Lumber, and Miami-Dade County.
