The South Florida Chapter of the American Liszt Society and Deering Estate present a piano recital on Friday, March 17th at the Deering Estate. Part of a multi-season Liszt Piano Series, the evening features South Florida-based pianist Dr. José López with a program that highlights Cuban composers in the era of Franz Liszt. The concert takes place inside the historic Stone House Ballroom at 8:00 pm, with a Meet-the-Artists reception at 7:30 pm.
Tickets are $20 adults & $12 Senior and Student (K-12 & college with student I.D.) Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Deering Estate Ticket Office at 305-235-1668 ext. 233. The Ticket Office is open daily, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Dr. José López’s recital, "Cuban Composers in the Era of Franz Liszt" features contradanzas by Saumell, Cervantes and rarely heard works from Gaspar Villate, a composer mostly associated with opera - a genre that in turn inspired a transcription of Verdi’s Traviata by XIX composer Nicolas Ruiz Espadero. Also included, to be heard in Florida for the first time, are composed by another Romantic figure, Jose Comellas, whose world premiere CD will launch on the Toccata Classics label.
