The Department of Transportation and Public Works unveils a specially-wrapped O, Miami Poetry Festival Metrobus
The unique design features original poems by local third and fourth grade students
In honor of the annual O, Miami Poetry Festival, the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has collaborated with the organizers to bring original works of poetry to the streets of the County. A specially-wrapped Metrobus will feature poems written by third and fourth grade students enrolled at either Poinciana Park or Orchard Villa Elementary.
The bus wrap design came about as part of the O, Miami Sunroom: Poetry in Communities program, which provides instruction to children at elementary schools in Liberty City. The goal of the lessons is for the students to develop a love of reading and writing and a facility for creative expression.
Students’ poems are featured in the O, Miami Poetry Festival and through other projects and collaborations, like with DTPW, where their works can be seen by a diverse audience. In addition to the specially-wrapped bus, DTPW will feature two limited edition yellow EASY Tickets throughout the month of April. These tickets will have a unique poem printed on it and are limited in quantity -- only 100,000 have been printed. They will only be available at ticket vending machines and will function like ordinary EASY Tickets.
