First Connect305 interactive kiosk unveiled at Government Center
The Department of Transportation and Public Works unveiled a new interactive touch-screen kiosk on Tuesday afternoon. The Wi-Fi-equipped kiosk, branded Connect305, stems from a partnership with CIVIQ Smartscapes.
The partnership includes deploying up to 300 interactive kiosks countywide, the first two of which are currently up-and-running at Stephen P. Clark Government Center. Users will be able to connect to the device and access free Wi-Fi.
The goal of Connect305 is, simply put, to connect people. In addition to offering free Wi-Fi to our residents and visitors, CIVIQ is providing infrastructure support in order to enhance cellular communications with Miami-Dade Transit’s onboard subsystems on both Metrobus and Metrorail. This means that passengers will now be able to experience a seamless transition from bus to station to train, without having to reconnect to the internet.
The infrastructure enhancements will also make DTPW’s existing real-time bus and train tracker technology used in the Miami-Dade Transit Tracker app more accurate and reliable.
“When technology and transportation come together, Miami-Dade County becomes a richer community with more opportunities,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “This new partnership with CIVIQ Smartscapes is one additional step toward our County becoming a smart city.”
The kiosks and enhancements to DTPW’s existing infrastructure will connect Miami-Dade Transit riders to a world of possibility with high-speed internet connection, wayfinding options, and access to County services information.
“These new interactive kiosks will offer greater connectivity in our transit system, which leads to increased efficiency, less downtime, and an overall better experience for our passengers,” said Alice N. Bravo, P.E., Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
Bravo added, "Our partnership with CIVIQ will not only provide free Wi-Fi for our residents, it will enhance engagement with our services, as well as provide easier access to information."
Download the Miami-Dade Transit Tracker app and start planning your next trip today. Also available from DTPW is the EASY Pay Miami app that allows riders to purchase their fare from the palm of their hands. Don’t forget, riders can now also pay for parking via their mobile devices with the PayByPhone cashless app.
