Tamiami Park to commemorate roadway to long-time youth baseball champion
Residents are invited to join the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Miami-Dade County District 11 Commissioner Joe A. Martinez at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, as they dedicate Tamiami Park's roadway entrance at SW 114th Avenue and SW 24th Street/Coral Way, Miami, as “Raul Estrada, Sr. Way.”
The roadway is being named in memory of the late Raul Estrada who guided the Tamiami Youth Baseball Association (aka "Tamiami Baseball") for the past 40 years. The roadway naming is the result of a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Martinez and the Board of County Commissioners.
In his long-time volunteer service on behalf of Tamiami Baseball, Estrada lent his time and talents to teaching hundreds of youth about baseball and helping them learn life lessons through the sport. During that time he held numerous leadership roles including coach, assistant commissioner, rules committee member and chairman, executive board member, league commissioner, and president.
Estrada passed away on August 6, 2016 and is survived by his wife Maria Luisa, children Cici, Raul, Jerry, and Eddie, and grandchildren Renae, Nicole, Stephanie, Amanda, Brooke, and Bridget.
Tamiami Park is located at 11201 SW 24 Street, Miami. For directions to the event and information about youth baseball leagues, ball field rentals and other recreational opportunities at Tamiami Park visit www.miamidade.gov/parks or call 786-315-5295.
