Precautionary Swimming Advisory in effect for East Greynolds Park, Maule Lake, Oleta River

MIAMI (June 09, 2017)

A swimming advisory for the areas of East Greynolds Park (fishing area), Maule Lake, Oleta River from the Oleta River State Park entrance (kayak launch) to the swimming area is in effect. As a precautionary measure, a public advisory is also in effect to refrain from other water-based recreational activities within the previously mentioned boundaries.

The advisory is a result of an air release valve that broke off a 36-inch sewer line at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 168 Street causing approximately 5,800 gallons of wastewater to enter the waterway. Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department staff have already repaired the break and have posted signs around the affected areas.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources are testing the posted waters and the advisory remains in effect until two consecutive days of clear testing occur.

It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the department’s website.
