Miami-Dade County cancels aerial spraying due to unfavorable weather conditions
Mosquito Control will reschedule for Friday, June 16 (weather permitting)
The aerial spraying activity for mosquitoes scheduled for this evening has been cancelled as a result of poor weather conditions in the treatment area. The Department of Solid Waste Management’s (DSWM) Mosquito Control and Habitat Management Division will continue to monitor the weather and will reschedule the aerial spray activity for Friday, June 16, 2017. The new flight is subject to cancellation based on weather conditions.
“Spraying under high wind and/or rainy conditions kills very few mosquitoes and will cause the insecticide to drift from the targeted areas,” stated DSWM’s Mosquito Control Surveillance Manager Chalmers Vasquez. “We want to ensure that the aerial treatment is a success and having the right weather conditions is necessary.”
To help keep mosquitoes at bay, residents throughout the county are encouraged to “Fight the Bite” by continuing to drain any standing water to prevent mosquito breeding and covering up by applying mosquito repellent when outdoors and wear clothing that covers the skin to avoid mosquito bites.
