Department of Transportation and Public Works announces the launch of the Metrorail / Zipcar Car-Sharing Pilot Program
The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the launch of the Metrorail / Zipcar Car-Sharing Pilot Program during the Live.Ride.Share.Miami summit at the Conrad Miami Hotel at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017.
The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works is launching a pilot program together with Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing network, which allows the company to access two parking spaces at five Metrorail stations for one year. The Metrorail stations selected for this pilot program are: Coconut Grove, Vizcaya, Earlington Heights, Hialeah and Palmetto.
Car sharing is an innovative method that provides another mobility option to public transportation users and reduces traffic volume in our community. Car sharing also helps to reduce CO2 emissions by decreasing the amount of personally owned vehicles on the road, and has been shown to increase the use of public transportation and positively impact the health of commuters who will walk and bike more often while car sharing.
A brief press conference will take place at 11 a.m. inside of the Faro Banquet Hall on the 3rd floor of the Conrad Miami Hotel, located at 1395 Brickell Ave., Miami, FL 33131, during the morning activities of the Live.Ride.Share.Miami summit taking place at the hotel. Shortly after, a ribbon cutting will take place in the valet area of the hotel.
