The Deering Estate welcomes their 2017-2018 Artists-in-Residence

MIAMI (September 25, 2017)

The Deering Estate, to honor the legacy of Charles Deering as Artist and Philanthropist, supports emerging and mid-career artists who work in a multitude of disciplines and media. As an extension of this legacy, our Artist-in-Residence Program acts as an incubator for creative works and collaborative opportunities that engage the public.

We are pleased to announce the recipients of this year's residency opportunities. Studio Residencies are housed in our Artist Village Buildings, the Carriage House and Power House, and Project Residencies consist of specific interactions with the Estate and its resources. Studio Residencies were awarded to: Literary artist Dana DeGreff, Design-based collective Home Eleven (Nelly Bonilla and Oscar Luna), Visual artists Frida Baranek, Elia Khalaf, Ryan Roa, and Miquel Salom. Project Residencies were awarded to Sound-based collective Archival Feedback (T. Wheeler Castillo and Emile Milgrim), Photographer Carlos Domenech, Painter Jacqueline Gopie, Multidisciplinary Driftologist-in-Residence Skip Snow, and Miami Dade College Kendall Campus for an international arts collaboration.

Artist-in-Residence Program
The Artist-in-Residence program currently welcomes professional visual, performing, and literary artists who are self-motivated and focused. The primary basis for selection of our artists is the strength and quality of the applicant's work as well as a clear objective for their residency time. Both studio residencies and non-studio project residencies are available and are competitively selected through a jury process using leading professionals from our family of galleries, collaborative arts, and cultural organizations.

As evidenced by the successes of our alumni, the Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence program has been a catalyst for artistic practice and recognition, including: additional residencies, national and local grants, gallery representation, collection acquisitions, and community engagement. As a cultural arts organization, we are proud of the role that our program has played in our artists' careers, the positive measurable interactions with the public, and our growing cultural partnerships. We have the privilege of presenting and collaborating with internationally-acclaimed artists, composers, musicians, playwrights, authors, and performers.

Cultural Arts Programming is made possible with support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, The 100 Ladies of Deering, and The Deering Estate Foundation, Inc.
