Community volunteers prepare the Deering Estate for the Holidays

MIAMI (November 06, 2017)

Throughout December, visitors can tour the elegant and historic houses at the Deering Estate as they come alive with holiday accents and decorations. The "Festival of Trees" Exhibit is a special project of local garden clubs and community organizations that brings the warmth of the holiday season to the Deering Estate.

The Deering Estate Foundation, Inc. and the Deering Estate would like to give a special thanks to the 100 Ladies of Deering for their generous sponsorship of the Ballroom decorations, as well as thank the following garden clubs and community organizations for their decorating efforts and contributions to the 2017 Festival of Trees Exhibit:

  • Coral Pines Garden Club
  • Dadeland Garden Club
  • Ken Pines & Sunset Park Garden Club
  • MacArthur South Family and Consumer Sciences Department 4H
  • Palmetto Bay Garden Club
  • Pinecrest Garden Club
  • South Miami Garden Club
  • The Florida Association of Family and Consumer Sciences-District J
  • The 100 Ladies of Deering

The holiday decorations will be on display daily from November 29, 2017 through January 5, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Complementing the seasonal display, the "Mythology and Site" Exhibit takes inspiration from Charles Deering's lifelong attraction to the coast and ocean. Christina Pettersson explores the Deering Estate's architecture and decorative arts collections with an exhibit rich with sea lore, fantastical beasts, and references to Greek mythology and Christian iconography. The "Mythology and Site" Exhibit is on display through January 5, 2018, daily, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Both exhibits are free with Estate admission: $12 for adults and $7 for children (ages 4-14). Please note that the Deering Estate will be closed on December 25, 2017.
