Miami-Dade County signs Sister City Agreement with Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, France

MIAMI (November 08, 2017)

Miami-Dade County signed a Sister City Agreement on November 6 with officials from Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, France. The agreement calls for County and Aix-Marseille-Provence to work together to strengthen business, cultural and tourism ties.

Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, and Commissioners Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Chair of the International Trade Consortium (ITC), Rebeca Sosa, Chair of the Economic Development, and Tourism Committee, and Jean Monestime officially welcomed the delegation at the signing ceremony and expressed the County’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with Aix-Marseille-Provence. Joining Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez in signing the agreement were Commissioners Bovo, Diaz and Monestime. President Gaudin and 1st Vice President Vassal signed for Aix-Marseille-Province.

“When Commissioner Monestime and I went to Marseille in 2015 with the Business and Trade Development Mission, we knew there were some exciting opportunities to partner with Marseille, and this agreement is a direct result of that mission,” Commissioner Diaz said. The Miami Dade Sister Cities program is part of the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources’ office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), and overseen by the ITC Board of Directors.

OEDIT is hosting the delegation from Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis from November 4 to 10. The delegation is led by the Honorable Jean-Claude Gaudin, President of Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, Mayor of Marseille, and Ms. Martine Vassal, 1st Vice-President of Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, President of the Bouches du Rhone Area’s Council.

The delegation of approximately 120 participants includes top government officials from the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, City of Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhone area, as well as representatives of economic development agencies, French businesses and the French media. It is the largest delegation Miami-Dade County has ever hosted.

Delegates will meet with County officials and local business and industry experts, as well as participate in business-to-business meetings.
